EDITING OPTIONS
Content Coach (Structural Editing) = .01/word
Evaluation of story structure and content, characterization, plot, tension
and conflict, scene structure, and story arc. Includes evaluation of stylistic
issues such as point of view, character motivation, pacing, and showing vs.
telling.
In a structural edit, I will make specific comments and recommendations
in the text. Occasionally, I will give examples by restructuring your words so
you can see better how to apply a particular recommendation. I will also give a
summary at the end which will cover all issues found in more detail and explain
what the issue is, why it should be avoided, and how to fix it.
Grammar Coach (Copy Editing) = .01/word
Sometimes referred to as line editing. Correction of grammar and
punctuation. Includes correction of dialogue structure and punctuation,
overuse/repetition of words or sentence structure, passive action, weak and
unnecessary words.
In a copy edit, I will correct specific grammatical and punctuation
issues in the text, as well as mark what each issue is. I will also give a
summary at the end which will cover all issues found in more detail and explain
what each issue is, why it should be avoided, and how to fix it.
Writing Coach (Mentoring) = .02/word for the first 5,000 words; .01/word for the remainder of the manuscript.
Involves several layers of editing. The first will be a full structural
edit. The second will be a copy edit of the first 5,000
words). The third will involve answering your specific questions in several
follow-up e-mails. Includes a summary of repeated issues at the end of the
edit, which will cover both structural and grammatical issues found, and will
explain what each issue is, why it should be avoided, and how to fix it.
Partial Manuscript Mentoring (you choose how many chapters/words) = .02/word
Includes line editing and limited structural editing (can’t include
overall story structure and plot evaluation), plus a summary of repeated issues
at the end of the edit, which will cover both structural and grammatical issues

I will mark a few spots throughout the manuscript to indicate how each issue shows up in your writing and give specific instructions for how apply the fixes and suggestions to your entire manuscript.

THE PROCEDURE
1) Send me your first 5 pages (double-spaced) plus a brief description
of the plot and tell me a little about your writing journey.
2) I will do both structural and copy editing on your submission so you
can get a feel for my style.
3) At the end of the edit, I will evaluate which level of editing you
would benefit most from and state my reasons.
4) You choose which editing option you want.
5) We will figure the cost, and payment is required up-front.
6) Approximate turn-around time:
Full manuscript
structural or copy edit = 6-8 weeks
Full manuscript
mentoring edit = 8-12 weeks
Partial manuscript mentoring = 2-3 weeks
Full manuscript evaluation - 2-3 weeks
